“Evolutionism Trashed My Life”

[Today's post is by Jay A. Auxt, co-author of Global Warming and the Creator's Plan, newly published by Master Books.]

As an impressionable teenager, evolutionism trashed my life. I confess that I swallowed it hook, line and sinker. Shortly after I was saved (Dec. 21, 1980), I vowed I would never again swallow another “everybody knows” ideology without significant personal investigation. As I began to investigate the contradiction between God’s Word and evolution, it became glaringly clear that society has been duped by bad science, no science, half truths, and just plain ideological hoopla. By the late 1980s, God was using me to share the scientific evidence for His Word on a regular basis.

About 5 years ago it became obvious that the media was using this “everybody knows” tactic to spread their agenda on global warming. What was behind the agenda? Once again, bad science, no science, half truths, and just plain ideological hoopla. As I would speak to different organizations about the fallacies of evolution and the sciences that support God’s Word, I began to receive numerous questions about global warming. To address these questions, I put together a 15-minute presentation that began with a quick 10-question quiz with some of the more blatant misconceptions and then followed the quiz by addressing these 10 myths. It was brief, fun, entertaining, and provided people with enough information to recognize that they should not fall for the old “everybody knows” trick.

However, every presentation generated more questions. It was very clear that, (a) most Christians sincerely want to be good stewards, and (b) they are confused about what that entails. Many had recognized that what they were hearing just didn’t sound quite right, but they couldn’t separate the fact from the fiction with any confidence. Unfortunately, all too many were falling for the global warming myths simply because they didn’t have a balance of information. For a Christian, this is devastating for a variety of reasons. Most importantly, (a) they feel that they have seriously failed their Creator by destroying His greatest tangible gift (the earth), and (b) they shortchange His greatest intangible gift (Jesus Christ) by getting sidetracked from His purpose for their lives! Eventually the presentation grew to 90 minutes and the discussions after the presentation often continued until the lights went down.

About 2 years ago I gave the presentation to the Institute for Scientific and Biblical Research (ISBR) in Lancaster, PA. The discussions continued until the lights went down. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Curtis (a good friend and the president of ISBR) suggested that the 2 of us write a book on the subject. I was very reluctant at first. I did not want to get sidetracked from God’s purpose for my life. That was one of the primary purposes for the presentation! However, with time, it became clear that this was, indeed, God’s will. Dr. Curtis penned the outline and put the process into motion. After working together for 2 years, the product is now available. Dr. Curtis and I pray that God will bless those who read it, and allow them to properly focus on serving Him.

[Editor's note: As Christians, we are certainly responsible for being good stewards of God's creation. The purpose of this book is not to encourage shirking our responsibilities, but to provide the information necessary to assist Christians in making environmental decisions in a sound and responsible manner.]
