[Today's post is by Jay A. Auxt, co-author of Global Warming and the Creator's Plan, published by Master Books.]
In the fall of 2008 I began a 12-session seminar on the sciences that support a biblically based creation. The first session began with a survey of topics. The intent was to meet the needs of the attendees. Out of curiosity, I included the subject of global warming on that topic survey. (Yes, global warming is a creation/evolution-charged subject. The evolutionary ideaology is, “since the earth has been here for billions of years, it must be protected enough to last billions of more years.” Clearly the only way that will happen is if “all of you” get off!) Anyway, much to my surprise, global warming tied for first place, along with dinosaurs. Obviously this subject was of more interest to more people than I had ever imagined!
Global warming is certainly an important issue, but are we getting all the facts?
You have heard:
- The earth has warmed over the past 100 years
- The artic ice is melting
- Ice core data indicates that the earth has been getting warmer for the past 100 years
- Surface temperature data clearly indicates that the earth is getting warmer
- As Christians, proper stewardship of God’s creation is crucial
But have you also heard:
- The international temperature standards were not established until 1968
- A submarine arctic volcano has recently become very active!
- The same ice cores indicate that all life as we know it died out multiple times due to cold
- Upper atmosphere satellite data clearly indicates that the earth is getting colder
- To do that (steward God’s creation) we need to be accurately informed
Our environment is clearly a subject that concerns conscientious Christians. (As well it should.) As Christians, we do need to be good stewards, but we do not need to be distracted from our mission in life. God has a plan for each and every one of us. The purpose of this book is not to tell you how to take care of the environment (that is between you and God), but to fill in the gaps with the information necessary to make godly and wise choices.
